The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Girls @ Rickshaw Stop

Love them or hate them, you will be seeing Brooklyn's The Pains of Being Pure at Heart on endless 2009 best of lists come December. The band has drawn several comparisons to The Jesus and Mary Chain / flame wars about how the comparison is wholly unfounded. Perhaps due to an admitted lack of real shoegaze/dreampop vocabulary, we side with the "they sound like The Jesus and Mary Chain" camp... could we say a poppy MBV?

The show is also your last chance to catch San Francisco's deservedly buzzed Girls before they embark on their mega summer/fall tour. While somewhat at home in San Francisco's garage and indie infused folk scene, on first listen you would guess this band is part of the Brooklyn scene that is slowly taking them on as their own. As one blog recently summarized

"In a lot of ways Girls are the ultimate San Francisco band: the laid-back vibe, the folky jammy-ness that has always been present there, as well as the neo-psych scene that has popped up over the last ten years. But it's totally different than the garage scene of Thee Oh Sees or Ty Segall...Girls are working on a whole other plain of dreamy, hazy beauty and noise. (Sound Bites via Brooklyn Vegan)

Their album drops in late September, and they are more or less guaranteed to blow up shortly thereafter... in the meantime, check out some tracks courtesy of our friends at Unpiano.

Edit: Shit... sold out.
