Weekly Wooot -- Animal Collective, Passion Pit and more.

This is the first installment of the epicsauce.com weekly (maybe closer to monthly) newsletter. If you like it, subscribe using the box above.

Keeping it short and sloppy, but this is shaping up to be a nice week:

//Tues 5.26//

*Hipster showdown: Passion Pit at Bimbos vs. Animal Collective at The Fox Theater (Oakland). Sadly, both are very sold out.

Word is that Animal Collective’s post-Merriweather Post Pavillion tour does NOT suck live:

Jury seems out on Passion Pit’s live show.

//Wed 5.27//

*Melvin’s fanboys will be stoked on Big Business @ Bottom of the Hill. For those unfamiliar, it’s Sludge/Doom at it’s best:

For $12, you can’t really go wrong.

*Mezzanine will also be all Frenched out with M83. .should also be pretty sweet… but at Mezzanine, on a wed.. seems kinda forced, even for the sans-employed.

//Thurs 5.28//

*Propagandhi will be taking their Veganarchist (google it) guitar god party to the infamous anti-corporate… Slims. If you do not know these guys, do yourself a favor and check out “Less Talk, More Rock.” For fans of awesome punk/teenagers with funneled angst. Seriously though.. this will probably be an awesome show.

*Bottom of the Hill has Black Moth Super Rainbow which is supposed to be a great live show.

*Independent has Electro favorite Tiga.. should be a weird mix of hipsters and Burning Man heads, but a good show nonetheless.

*Sadly, Japandroids canceled their scheduled Hemlock show, which was the safe bet for the night.

//Fri 5.29//

*This one could be huge… Wolf Eyes, Black Dice and Sic Alps warehouse show.

Black Dice are a solid Experimental quasi-dance act.. and they are on DFA!

At the risk of sounding like a goober, it kinda fills a space somewhere between Animal Collective and Dan Deacon.
Wolf Eyes and Sic Alps will also be bringing their more rocky approach to Noise

The show is at a 758 Natoma.. some spot billed as “OCD Warehouse.” Details are slim, but I will be updating info here as it becomes available:

//Sat 5.30//

*Portland favorites The Thermals are doing the first of two days @ Bottom of the Hill.
Word is it is a great live show.. Sadly it is sold out, so you might have to hold out until Sunday night.

*The Independent also has what could be a promising show..

*Pretty Lights is a Colorodo based hip hop leaning electronic act consisting of a producer on a monome/mpd24 and a live drummer. The beats are pretty hot and word is they have some sweet visuals:

Kinda has a Flying Lotus vibe to it…

Check out the videos.. for $15 this could be a sweet option for Saturday night.

//Sun 5.31//

Still looking for shows?

*We got day two of The Thermals at Bottom of the Hill to round out the weekend. Tickets appear to still be available.

*The Independent has a solid punk show with the Riverboat Gamblers.. More Absolutepunk than Pitchfork, but pretty still pretty raw and have some sick sing-alongs.
